One of my favorite things to diy is my own skincare! I have been creating my own skincare for many years, and I have tried and tested many different recipes, and done multiple courses to learn this skill. It is really easier than you think! If you can read and follow a recipe, then you can definitely make your own skincare!
I have seen (and sometimes tried-before I knew better) some pretty terrible skin care recipes out there on the world wide web.
There are some general rules that you must follow when creating anything that you will use on your body. Some of the recipes I have seen are definitely going to have mold growth and bacteria issues. If any recipe you make for skincare has water, or will come into contact with water you must have a preservative to ensure that no bacteria will grow in your product. You do not want to be spreading bacteria on your face or through your hair. (All of my diy recipes do have a preservative when needed.)
Skin care products that are oil based do not always need a preservative, unless they will come in contact with water-including dipping a wet finger into a jar of product. Vitamin E does help an oil based product last longer, (it is NOT a preservative) however if the product smells off or like crayons it’s time to throw it away.
First lets look at what your skin type is, then you can decide what you need in to help keep your skin healthy!
